On the way to telluride. The free gondola to Mountain Village. Near the top and near the storms. A small western town with a big atmosphere. Monarch pass on the Continental Divide, Yeah I am tired. Cowboys near Gunnison. Our highest point since we rode in the Himalaya. This rattlesnake was two feet from my leg, he was worried I would run him over I was worried he would bite me. The last of the rockies for us.

It’s been over a week since our last post. Thanks for the support and understanding that finding Internet and time has been rough. Joe and I have been in the woods camping, starting fires to fend off mosquitoes, and have joined a group of cyclists. The geek part is still with us, as any outlet we see is an oppotunity to charge our electronics. We have been biking for the past few days with 7 people that we met in Yellowstone. Joe and I had been getting along great and this just bumped our spirits to the next level.

Greetings from Strumica, Macedonia! I’m currently circling an area near the border of Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece… and while it’s blistering hot here, it’s also incredibly beautiful. I’m killing a few days by exploring this little-traveled area of the Balkans before heading with my bike to Athens, Greece – the final destination for my 2009 European bicycle touring adventure. The reason for this post, however, is because there’s been a lot going on here at Bicycle Touring Pro over the past couple days.

When Penicillin was accidentally discovered in 1928 it set off a revolution of antibiotics and drastically improved our quality of life.  Bamboo has the potential to do this for the green movement, providing the same standard of living we are used to but at a much smaller cost to the environment.  Green Biz just recently did a piece on the rapidly growing nature of the bamboo market.  According to their article bamboo sequesters 4 times the amount of carbon compared to hardwoods and takes only 3 years v.

Just half an hour ago, there was some talk in our office about using maps. Half an hour later, I came across an article on the use of maps and Google Earth in a book. 360 Degrees Longitude is about one family’s journey around the world. Via Google Earth blog A book called ” 360 Degrees Longitude ” is about a family of four who decided to spend a year traveling around the world. The book documents their journey – but, I’m especially intrigued by their use of the Internet, maps, and Google Earth to help people follow the places they went, and view the pictures they took.
